Teeth Whitening
Feeling like your teeth could use a little pop? We get it.
Maybe you’ve been supporting a coffee habit for years or maybe you enjoy a weekend Merlot. Or maybe you quit smoking (congrats!) and you don’t like the staining left on your teeth.
Let’s chat about the different professional ways to brighten your teeth!
Over time, everyday habits like coffee, tea, soft drinks, red wine, and smoking can leave behind stains and gradually darken your teeth. The good news? Your brighter smile is still in there.
At Midtown Toronto Dental, our professional teeth whitening treatment is simple and designed to safely lift years of surface staining—helping you achieve a noticeably brighter smile in as little as one visit.
There are typically two types of professional whitening options—in-office whitening and whitening with take-home custom-made trays.
What to expect with in-office whitening
Once your examination and cleaning have been completed at Midtown Toronto Dental, we’ll help prepare you for your professional whitening treatment.
To help minimize sensitivity, we recommend brushing with a sensitivity toothpaste such as Sensodyne for one week before your appointment. Some patients may experience temporary sensitivity following professional whitening, and this simple step can help make the experience more comfortable.
During your whitening appointment, a professional-strength hydrogen or carbamide peroxide whitening gel will be carefully and evenly applied to the teeth, with precautions taken to protect your gums and surrounding tissues.
The whitening gel is applied in 20-minute intervals, with the teeth rinsed between applications. Most treatments involve 2 or 3 applications.
The result? A noticeably brighter, refreshed smile—often several shades lighter on the shade guide, depending on your starting shade and the nature of your staining.
Dr. Yoo will then review with you instructions for the next few days, such as what food and beverages to stay away from during this time.
Some temporary sensitivity is common after professional teeth whitening, even for patients who don’t normally experience sensitive teeth. It typically settles quickly. Brushing with a sensitivity toothpaste such as Sensodyne can help ease any discomfort. For the first day or two after whitening, we also recommend avoiding foods and drinks that are extremely hot or cold until your teeth feel comfortable again.
