What to expect
Who is a Candidate for Invisalign Treatment?
Invisalign treatment is ideal for individuals looking to straighten their teeth without the need for traditional metal braces. Candidates include teens and adults, and everyone with mild to moderate dental issues, such as crooked teeth, gaps, overbites, underbites, or crossbites. Unlike traditional braces, Invisalign is a great option for those seeking a discreet, comfortable, and flexible solution.
Invisalign works for those who have healthy teeth and gums, are committed to wearing the aligners for 20-22 hours a day, and are motivated to follow the treatment plan. A consultation with Dr. Yoo will determine if this option is the right fit for your needs.
Consultation and Evaluation
After a comprehensive examination, Dr. Yoo will perform a detailed smile analysis. Together, we’ll discuss your goals and what you like—or would like to change—about your smile. We believe every question deserves an answer, which is why we take the time to listen carefully to your concerns before evaluating your teeth and bite. This thoughtful approach allows us to create a personalized treatment plan that supports both your ideal smile and the long-term health of your mouth.
Using our iTero® 3D scanner, we create a precise digital model of your teeth, allowing us to map out a fully customized treatment plan for your Invisalign journey.
A Preview of Your New Smile
Using your digital scan and keeping your goals in mind, we’ll design a plan for your treatment. You’ll be able to preview a 3D ClinCheck® simulation of your smile from start to finish, so you know exactly what to expect.
Starting your treatment
We’ll walk you through how to wear and care for your clear aligners and place any necessary attachments to ensure a precise fit. You’ll leave with multiple sets of aligners to get you going, and we’ll see you every two months or so during the course of treatment.
Frequently Asked Questions
-
Invisalign is the clear alternative to metal braces for teens, and adults. They are clear aligners that work in a series that gradually move your teeth into place.
-
Invisalign begins with a consultation with an Invisalign-trained dentist. Your expert will come up with a treatment plan to customize and transform your smile. This illustrated plan is called a ClinCheck and you may view it together with your Invisalign provider. Once the plan is approved your unique dental aligners will be created. You will wear each set of aligners for 20 to 22 hours per day, changing aligners every one to two weeks as directed by your dentist. Your teeth will gradually and gently shift to their new place, until you achieve your new smile.
-
Absolutely. It is possible for your teeth to move after Invisalign but wearing a retainer at night will maintain the new position. Retention is key and long-term! In some cases, Dr. Yoo may also recommended a fixed permanent retainer as well for additional support.
-
Patients start noticing changes within 4 weeks but cases typically take 6-12 months depending on how crowded teeth were at the start. We want to move teeth slowly - moving teeth too fast will cause unwanted damage.
-
They both work effectively well but is case-dependent. Braces may be better on people with severely crooked teeth or with those who don’t have all their adult teeth, ie. kids and teens. Invisalign is especially great for adults as the aligners are invisible! A thorough consultation with Dr. Yoo will help determine which is best for you.
-
Yes. 4 sets of Vivera® retainers are included with your Invisalign package, and a set of permanent fixed retainers if Dr. Yoo deems it necessary.
-
No, before eating you should remove your Invisalign trays and put them in your case. Eat your meal, brush your teeth if possible, and put your trays back in.
-
You may eat and drink anything you’d like, but you should remove your trays beforehand to limit the chance of staining them. You may keep your trays in if you’re drinking water or any other clear liquid. One tip is to avoid foods that have heavy pigmentation like turmeric. If your trays do end up staining, you may use a retainer cleansing tab.
-
Up close people may notice but Invisalign is relatively invisible and people will not notice.
-
Yes.
-
No. Teeth may become slightly mobile during treatment but this is normal during any orthodontic treatment.
-
No, but you may notice an improvement in facial profile if you had crooked front teeth or flared teeth to begin with.
-
When a new tray is worn, patients may feel some pressure or discomfort as the trays gently shift teeth into a proper position. This is temporary! Individuals may also have to adapt to increased saliva and speech, all of which is also temporary.
-
Most patients only need to do Invisalign once but you may do another round of Invisalign depending on individual goals or circumstances. Speak to Dr. Yoo if you’d like to develop a new treatment plan.
